WHY SHOULD COMPUTERS BE NETWORKED? A computer network can increase the overall profitability and efficiency of your business while decreasing your long term costs. Staff efficiency will improve by making the same data available to multiple users.

To be competitive in today's market place you must be able to use the same tools as your competition. A computer network is just such a tool.

The following diagram represents what a typical computer network might look like.

Some other reasons to consider networking are Data Sharing such as E-mail, Scheduling,Graphics, databases, Intranet etc.. Other benefits such as Resource Sharing of Printers Modems, Faxes, centralized data backups, Internet Access etc. will all help to lower your overall capital expenditures.

WHY MBI? BECAUSE WE LISTEN! We at MBI Data pride ourselves in knowing what each customer wants to see in thier network & data systems. How can we do this? It's very simple, we listen to you and are attentive to your specific requirements.

MBI Data Systems has the experience to design and install Linux or Microsoft Windows network/Internet servers and we have the capabilities to meet your companies needs using the most appropriate tools and techniques.

WHAT EXACTLY IS LINUX? Well Linux is a Kernel, which includes the core operating system that handles networking and hardware management. It is a great alternative to Microsoft Windows or Apple's MacOS. Also, Linux can replace Windows on your desktop, or windows NT as your server.

Linux is a robust modern operating system. It is designed to run on the latest 32/64-bit architecture, uses preemptive multitasking, protected memory, supports multiple processors, and has rich support for networking, including TCP/IP networking. Linux was originally written for Intel's 386 architecture, but now runs on a wide variety of hardware platforms, including the x86 family of processors (Intel, AMD etc.), as well as Alpha, SPARC, and PowerPC chips.

Because Linux is similar to Unix it should run all the applications a Unix server system would, including web servers like Apache, mail serving software like Sendmail, and database servers like Oracle, Informix, or more open applications like MySQL and Postgres. Linux supports a wide range of file system types, and through programs like samba can even seamlessly replace NT as a Windows file server and yet at a much lower cost per user. Clustering technology has enabled Linux to scale up to handle the supercomputing loads required by many scientific/engineering applications, and required in high availability environments.

LINUX APPLICATIONS! As more and more application programs are written for the Linux operating system you will be able use more features such as FAX servers, Accounting, Word Processing, spreadsheets, etc.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? You might ask, "How can this system be such a low cost?". Linux is distributed under the GNU General Public License, a "free" license giving anyone the right to modify its source code and redistribute it as they see fit. Because of this, Linux has with it a talented and friendly community of developers dedicated to the improvement of this software. Part of the GPL states that code must be given away for free or for a nominal fee to cover costs of media (i.e. Books & CD-ROM). Therefore, most (or all) free software is available to anyone on the Internet.

To see how we can lower your cost of running a file server, give us a call or e-mail us for a free evaluation.

IS LINUX COMPATIBLE WITH MICROSOFT WINDOWS? The short answer is 'YES'. Pretty much anything that a Microsoft Windows system can do a Linux can also do. We've successfully networked Microsoft Windows clients & servers to Linux servers.

WE DO WINDOWS! As you can see in many cases Linux is a great option but if you still prefer the Microsoft Windows Server or Windows Desktop systems, we have successfully installed each of these Microsoft products as well.

The Windows 2008/2012® Server family is a multipurpose network operating system for businesses of all sizes. The newest version of the Windows server operating system let you share files and printers reliably and securely across you entire network, choose from thousands of business applications compatible to run today and many other features that we would be happy to go over with you. This combination and flexibility delivers a strong business value proposition for today's IT customer.

We also combine Linux, Apple, Microsoft Windows servers and desktop systems on the same network.

VIRTUALIZATION & GREEN COMPUTING! There is so much talk these days focused around Green Computing and Disaster Recovery Planning. The best way to help with both these efforts is through Virtualization. Virtualization dramatically improves the efficiency and availability of resources and applications in your organization. Internal resources are underutilized under the old “one server, one application” model and IT admins spend too much time managing servers rather than innovating. An automated datacenter, built on a VMware virtualization platform, lets you respond to market dynamics faster and more efficiently than ever before. VMware vSphere delivers resources, applications—even servers—when and where they’re needed. VMware customers typically save 50-70% on overall IT costs by consolidating their resource pools and delivering highly available machines. Please ask us about either VMware or Microsoft Hyper-v products.

* Run multiple operating systems on a single computer including Windows, Linux and more.
* Let your Mac run Windows creating a virtual PC environment for all your Windows applications.
* Reduce capital costs by increasing energy efficiency and requiring less hardware and increasing your server to admin ratio
* Ensure your enterprise applications perform with the highest availability and performance
* Build up business continuity through improved disaster recovery solutions and deliver high availability throughout the datacenter
* Improve enterprise desktop management & control with faster deployment of desktops and fewer support calls due to application conflicts
